Preciosa is the 11 year old daughter of the new head guard on Alcatraz. She befriends the notorious crime boss, Al Capone. A few years later, her father leaves for WW2 while Al Capone is transferred away from Alcatraz. When Preciosa turns 18, she moves to ‘The Nest’ in North Beach where she meets Grateful Annie, her grandparents’ current tenant. Through her friendship with Annie and her grandparents’ vegan restaurant, she watches Lawrence Ferlinghetti open City Lights Bookstore, poet Allen Ginsberg find himself on the banned books list, and supports her friend Bob Kauffman on his quest to create Beatitude Magazine before taking a vow of silence for more than a decade. As the 50s transition to the 60s, she watches the rise of The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin through the lens of her camera, which also earns her a position as a journalist with Rolling Stone Magazine.
